Preparator at the National Baseball Hall of Fame
As a preparator, I was exposed to a variety of mount-making practices and materials. In this image, I am working with a butane torch to weld brass.
By making these shirt mounts and not-pictured hat mounts, I worked with power saws, drill presses, sanders, and needle and thread.
While working with acrylic, I learned how to cut, sand, polish, and bend acrylic into the shape and appearance you want.
This glove mount was the result of my work with acrylic.
I not only made mounts for the exhibits but also worked to create depth and movement to case layouts.
In a few instances, I designed and created mounts to enhance the meaning in the display. For instance, I created the right mount which displays mini pennants to form the shape of a larger pennant.
To ensure the safety of paper objects, I sealed 3 of their sides in plastic. This allows for an opening to avoid a sealed environment that could damage the artifact.
Again, I helped with case layout and the design and building of all mounts in this case.
